Pedagogy

I currently have full responsibility for teaching Technical & Scientific Writing to senior-level undergraduates at the University of Cincinnati in engineering, science, and English. I independently prepared the syllabus, designed the assignments, and created study guides. I  also taught Writing for Business to upper-level students in information technology, organizational leadership, English, and other majors.

Business Writing

ENGL 9041

Syllabus & Sample Assignment

Students learned the basics of business writing, including strategies for delivering good and bad news, content marketing, and professional development. In this course, students completed seven major assignments as outlined on the syllabus below. For their final assignment, I had students submit entries to be considered for the ABC Student Writing Contest. I chose the two strongest samples and submitted them for consideration at ABC's 2018 International Conference.

Technical and Scientific Writing

ENGL 4092

Syllabus & Sample Assignment

Students learn how to adapt their technical writing skills to a variety of audiences with different user needs by completing assignments like technical translations, proposals, instructions, and product descriptions. In this course, students complete five major assignments outlined in the syllabus below. The Usability Test Report featured below requires students to put instructions they design into practice. The lesson is offered as a way to demonstrate the important role of user testing in both product and document design.
